This Upper Abdominal and Pelvic Scan is to look at the size, shape and condition of the gallbladder, biliary system, pancreas, liver and both kidneys.

If your biological sex (assigned at birth) is male it will also look at the size, shape and condition of the bladder and prostate area.

If your biological sex (assigned at birth) is female it will also look at the size, shape and condition of the spleen, central blood vessels, uterus, lining of the womb, both ovaries and pelvic area.

Your Upper Abdominal and Pelvic Scan

This scan, available from 16 years of age, is performed by a qualified sonographer with diagnostic scanning experience.
It can help with the detection or exclusion of:

● Gallstones or polyps
● Fibroids
● Ovarian cysts
● Polycystic ovaries
● Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
● Enlarged prostate

It also assesses:

● Liver and kidney anatomy
● Bladder function

Referrals for scans can be made following a consultation with a GP who will discuss your needs and suitability for referral.
